I'm really enjoying your posts.

Umpiring for the past couple years has really helped me be more aware that indeed there are TWO teams out there playing.

I make a point to now cheer a quality play, smart thinking or just good ol' hustle.... regardless of which team that person plays for (but I tend to give it a little more for my niece). :)bamlindenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18144916743107134577noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7292205441742858290.post-9305987200324784442011-10-16T20:49:28.262-04:002011-10-16T20:49:28.262-04:00I think most of my cheering or vocal encouragement...I think most of my cheering or vocal encouragement is positive, though, like I said, I will get on Colin if he isn't hustling. And, yes, there are messages within each message.

We have more than one program around here that, for any number of reasons (and, no, jealousy isn't one), just don't approach the game in the way that I believe should be done.

If I can make that point while praising our kids, it's a win-win situation.

I root for more than my kid, too, and, unabashedly, get caught up in the action.

Today, we had a kid score his first goal of the season. Our side erupted. Later, whhen one of our defensemen had a breakaway, we all stood up to watch. Unfortunately, he didn't score, but we didn't let that keep us from congratulating him on his hustle.Puckhoundhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00957524025024642361noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7292205441742858290.post-11923388544829858312011-10-16T14:51:15.344-04:002011-10-16T14:51:15.344-04:00I often wonder if the parents realize that their v...I often wonder if the parents realize that their vocal outbursts can be heard by not only the players, but by other parents.

When watching my niece's fastpitch this past summer, I was shaking my head at some of the 'support' coming from the crowd.

Vocal encouragement is a highly underrated aspect of the whole process. It's refreshing to hear that you are acutely aware of it.

Great read. I love that last bit..bamlindenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18144916743107134577noreply@blogger.com
